Sunday Sailing

Stage 2 upwards sailing resumed as soon as possible after lockdown and we welcomed groups of 6 single handlers to the lake. They were supported by a single safety boat to retrieve them if they got really stuck but the rule of social distancing meant we could only have sailors who could self-right their boat after capsizing. The photos show the lengths some of the kids went to in order to socially distance and the winds were kind enough to support them!

Doesn’t our facility look great! Thanks to our drone-owner who took the footage below from the foreshore during a Sunday sailing session and supporting the family. It shows us off very nicely and we look forward to all being able to use the facility fully next season.

If there are other photos you would like to share with us we would love to hear from you, please email [email protected].

First Sailing from the New Site

Seeing the boats back on the lake yesterday was great – there were a few nervous faces to start with, as usual for the first sail of the season, but confidence grew throughout the sessions. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves on and off the water and re-kindled your friendships, etc.

I saw the clubhouse close-up for the first time and was excited about what we are achieving. The thought that has gone into the needs alongside a tight budget and with the kindness of a variety of local people and businesses will make it a true asset to ourselves, Westbury and the wider community.

One person that we should be grateful to is EVIE PLATT who you all know is training hard for a Virtual Mountain Challenge at the end of the month. Evie is ascending Cley Hill multiple times to hopefully climb the equivalent of a British mountain. Depending on her total ascents, she may acheive Scafell Pike, Snowdon or even Ben Nevis. I know I have sent this link out before but for those still intending to support Evie, here it is again! https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/evmc. The challenge takes place on Saturday 27 April and I am sure Evie would appreciate you cheering her on in person if you can – the postcode is BA12 7RE

Another person we are grateful to is DAVID LONG who is organising a fun quiz night for everyone on Thursday 16th May at the Railway Inn, Westbury – see attached. David is an experienced quizmaster and this should be a good evening. This event is open to the public and being advertised locally so please book in early with David to ensure your family/team has a chance to show off and win prizes! Book My Team  In NOW.

The Sponsor a Brick campaign is still active and can be accessed via https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/wwysa. This has already generated over £1,000.

Our treasurer, CLAIRE CLIFT, has ‘tussled’ with HMRC and we now have an active Gift Aid registration so for every donation made to us by UK taxpayers we can claim and extra 28% without it costing the individual a penny more. All of these efforts are important to the completion of the new facilities we need so please support us further by sharing the links and joining in the Quiz.

The list of helpers and supporters is longer than this, I appreciate, and we are all always grateful to everyone for all of their efforts. This short list highlighted above is because these are things we can all support NOW, so don’t hesitate use the links straight away! If you want to organise an event, please let us know and we will support you too!

Many thanks.  Emily Abbott
